Makayla School Update

11 October 2006

Over the last few weeks Makayla received her IQ and creativity and all that testing. She tested really well and high. She was accepted into the talented and gifted program and received her IEP this week! She'll attend special gifted classes twice a week for 90 minutes a day. Right now they are studying and doing special projects on Egypt. She's really excited about it all :)

Abe and I are really proud of her :) Her friend from the other fourth grade class is also in TAG and she's especially excited to be in the extra class with her :) I think that will help ease the transition!

Mak is also meeting up with her music teacher sometime this week or next to test her music skills and if she does well with that she'll receive private lessons before or after school!! We are hoping she chooses piano, but if she chooses guitar I'm okay with that too. We have both available at home :) Mak reads music beautifully and plays Elvis' love me tender, and beauty and the beast and several nursery rhymes and songs :)

Makayla is so Brave!

Posted by Mother Faerie @ Wednesday, October 11, 2006

At the Ren fest Makayla was brave enough to try the trampoline bungee jumping!!! Here she is in action:

She managed a flip there!! (where she was upside down!) She said that it was a bit scary, but she'd do it again :)

Makayla's Costume

Posted by Mother Faerie @ Wednesday, October 11, 2006

I finished Makayla's Costume!!! She's going to be Laura Ingalls. I got her a dress that works lovely from the second hand shop. We found a prairie hat at the steam boat museum at river market and I made the apron :) Here's a few pictures:

At first I was distraught over the fact that the apron and the hat wouldn't match. But reading up on prairie costumes, it's actually more correct if they do not match! Hats back then were often made from left over fabric scraps and didn't match the outfits in general :)

The Bead

Posted by Mother Faerie @ Wednesday, October 11, 2006

The other day Lisa was over picking up her kids. It was chaotic and crazy and I was sitting on the floor. Amaya was climbing all over me and stuck her hand in my pocket. I asked her what she was doing and she just did her little laugh/giggle thing and I didn't think anything about it really.

I had to go to work that night. It was about 1/2 way through my shift and I wrote myself a note to what I needed to pick up after work and when I put it my pocket I felt something. I pulled it out and it was a bead. At first I couldn't remember picking one up and wondered how it got there. Then I remembered Amaya and her sweet giggle and it made me smile and happy for the rest of the night :)

It was a beautiful pink bead.

While Lisa was at my house the kids were playing with the beads and during the chaos actually spilled them across the kitchen... LOL I'm sure there are forever lost beads under the stove...

Weight Watchers

Posted by Mother Faerie @ Wednesday, October 11, 2006

My last doctor appt I was told to lose weight. I was at risk of diabetes since it ran in my family. Although everything test wise was good, it was best I went ahead and did it for my own health benefits all around :)

So I've been watching my diet more closely and making sure I'm a bit more active than usual. In the last 4.5 weeks I've lost 21 lbs!! I started weight watchers recently and I'm hoping that gives me the motivation and support to keep going and to learn how to eat correctly for the rest of my life :) I'm impressed with myself :)
